Creating a Nest: il Nido Tranquillo

The idea to look for an Assisi apartment to rent came to me last fall.
I did not look long. I knew that I wanted something small and in the quiet backstreets of the centro storico of Assisi.

The apartment was furnished but not in a way that appealed to me.
I spent the past summer re-doing it, helped by a friend of my daughter, Giulia….who proved to be a most talented “handyman”: Federico can do anything!

He repaired the window, put a screen on the window, redid the lighting in the kitchen, sitting room and bedroom, worked on the shower, put up a wall in the kitchen and created counter space.
Together, we went hunting for a sofa and desk, the microwave, the hair-dryer, the vacuum cleaner, the clock radio, lamps, dishes, pots and pans, textiles and linens. As I collected Umbrian artwork and handicrafts, Federico helped me decide on where best to hang them in the kitchen, the bedroom, and the sitting room.

Without Federico, I could not have turned that apartment into such a cozy, comfortable and charming Nido Tranquillo (“tranquil nest”).

Grazie, Federico!

    Anne,

Your apartment looks lovely! Very tastefully decorated. Unfortunately, we didn’t have an opportunity to stay there while in Assisi as it was previously booked. Next time!
