Il Nido Tranquillo
Il Nido Tranquillo, our cozy in-town Assisi apartment for two, is in a recently-restored medieval building in Assisi’s quiet backstreets, right off the main square.
History is all around you, outside and inside: if you look down a few stairs to your left as you enter the building, you can see the finely-restored 14th-century medieval laundry area!
The air-conditioned apartment is on the second floor and up about thirty steps, divided into short, easy flights of about five steps each.

The Kitchen
The light-filled kitchenette – with skylight over the table – has a refrigerator, four-burner stove, microwave, washing machine, dishes, cutlery, cookware (including an espresso coffee pot – with directions!), and linens.
The Sitting Room
Off the kitchen, the well-lit sitting room has a window with screens and a comfortable sofa of modern Italian design near an antique inlaid table
(once, a sewing machine…..over a hundered years ago: note the fine wrought iron base with pedal).
You can work on your computer at this lovely table: the apartment has WIFI for computer use and a TV is mounted on the wall. Next to the sofa are ample cupboards for all dishes, cleaning equipment, etc. Above the sofa are artworks of Umbrian artists. A hand-woven Persian carpet of simple design, muted colors adds the final touch.
The bedroom
The bedroom has a double bed with excellent mattress and fine Italian fabrics were used for the above-bed wall hanging (used in place of a headboard) and bedspread. Reading lights on night stands flank the bed.
Abundant built-in closests line both walls and a bookcase has abundant reading material on Assisi, Umbria – and all of Italy.
A skylight is above the bed and can be opened as desired. Reading lights with bright light/dim light switches are on side tables flanking the bed. A clock radio is on one of the nightstands.
Sheets, towels and blankets are in the closets as well as a roller bed (for a couple with a child) and there is space in the bedroom to open the roller bed. (You’ll find a vacuum cleaner in the closet as well).
The Bathroom
The apartment has a small recently-restored bathroom with shower, very stile francescano (after all, we are in the town of St. Francis): small and simple with shower curtain around the shower but without shower stall, due to the small size of the bathroom. There is a hair dryer in the bathroom.
